A NOTE FROM MEXICO…

Posted in Uncategorized by Shira with View Comments

Dec2008 29

I’m in Mexico right now on a little vaca with the fam. There’s just nothing like being on the beach reading, sipping Pina Coladas while occasionally answering a call or email on your crackberry.

Some interesting links I wanted to pass on:

Thanks to my friend Jack Hidary for sending me this article about a combat medic on his 2nd Iraq tour who was killed on Christmas day. A truly tragic story about an individual who risked his life to make a difference and whose own life was cut short way too soon. Makes you realize that we should all be grateful for what we have and take whatever steps we can to make a positive impact in our communities.

On a lighter note, I’ve been recently entertained by AT&T’s latest text to speech site, which allows you to make a customizable voicemail message using a funny computer robot. Just go to the link below to start creating your very own robot message:

New years post to come! What are your new years resolutions??

P.S. Contrary to that pic- it’s actually beautiful and sunny here!

DOLLAR BILL XMAS TREE

Dec2008 17

Seems like BAR 89 in NYC hasn’t gotten the “recession” news. They made their festive XMAS tree entirely out of dollar bills.

I wonder… how their laid off customers feel about that. Cool or not so cool?

How many drunk customers do you think try stealing the bills? Hmmm…

UPGRADING FROM A CARDBOARD BOX FOR THE HOMELESS

Posted in Uncategorized by Shira with View Comments

Dec2008 15

A few months ago, I had the honor of meeting Peter Samuelson. He told me stories of movies he’s executive produced, and lets not forget to mention a charity he started called the Starlight Foundation. This brilliant entrepreneur is humble to say the least!

He also told me about his new invention to help the homeless- a grocery cart contraption that doubles as an actual shelter. It’s called EDAR- short for Everyone Deserves a Roof. LA Times did a great article about it this recently.

During such harsh economic times, it’s an inspiring story that makes me feel extremely grateful for everything I have. It also makes you realize how much of a difference we can all make, and how there are people like Peter who are working hard to make that positive change happen every day.

GOOGLE FOR LAZY PEOPLE!

Dec2008 12

Thanks to @mvanhorn for my latest online discovery (perhaps I should be embarrassed that I’m only discovering this now, but I have no shame!) – it’s the google link for lazy people.

Just go to http://letmegooglethatforyou.com/, write in your search and share the link  with your lazy friend or get a proactive friend to do it for you.

Here’s an example of a search I did (yes, pretty entertaining if you ask me)

MICROSOFT BIZSPARK AND TECHSET PARTY

Posted in Uncategorized by Shira with View Comments

Dec2008 11

Stopped by with my friend Geri last night. She works at Good Magazine and has her own fashionable blog, becauseimaddicted.net.

Thanks to Brian Solis for the invite!

Bizspark is a program launched  by Microsoft that offers startups all the free software, tools and technical support they need to get up and running. To qualify a startup needs to have been in business for less than three years and have less than $1 million in revenue. So stop dreaming and start doing! (that’s my saying, not theirs) hehe
