I remember a few years ago, watching the Live 8 benefit concerts being broadcast from around the world and raising money to fight poverty. I loved the excitement, the global unity for a great cause. A few years later, Live Earth came onto the scene with another live event focusing instead on global warming. Once again, I said to myself, “I want to be part of this!”
Well, you might see where this story is going. After meeting Andy Sternberg who works for Live Earth last year (and me telling him how much I wanted to work with them hehe), I was asked to shoot the video launching their video site.
I am so proud to now be part of their latest project that launched this week, “Love, the Climate”- a giveaway and call to action raising awareness for the upcoming climate bill. Watch the video below to find out more:
As you can see, there are many ways you can be involved- leave a voicemail, become a fan on facebook, design your own billboard and make your own creative video saying how much you love the environment. As you can see from mine, plants can be a girls best friend:
So it’s been a bit since my last post. I’m back in NYC! From the VMA’s to Fashion week, it seems like this city is the hub for all that is pop culture this week.
I actually was the video host for Westwood One’s VMA’s backstage interviews on Friday at Radio City Musical Hall. As you can see from the pics it was a complete blast! I got to interview everyone from Hanson to the amazing Smokey Robinson.
Chattin' with the crazy boys from Cobra Starship
A hug I will never forget from the amazing Smokey Robinson
Getting a booty pump lesson from Pussycat Dolls' Melody Thornton
I was asked my friend and founder of Stylit.TV to host the launch of their new web series, TechStyle.
We shot at this year’s Macworld and are offering people a chance to win over $1500 in tech schwag!
Thanks to the Apple weblog TUAW for joining forces for this giveaway.
I wanted to post this video because not only does it rock but it brings up some relevant points about social media and where we’re heading. With everything shifting online at an incomprehensible speed, it all might seem ephemeral to some. What do you think- is social media here to stay or will it float into the internet abyss?
I had the honor of working with Mashable (the top social media news site in the world) recently on their “Summer of Social Good” campaign. They basically created a charity fund and used social media to raise money throughout the summer for these four charities: Live Strong, The Humane Society, WWF and OXFAM. I helped lead one of the theme weeks, “Global Geek Week“, which brought together the geek community to give back. We had people donating, tweeting #geeks4good and participating in our “how geeks are going to change the world” Youtube video competition. The winner won 2 virgin america plane tickets! I can’t tell you what joy I get from bringing people from around the world together (on and offline), getting them excited and inspired to give back and bring positivity to their community.

I very strongly believe that if you have a platform, then it is a responsibility to give back to something greater than yourself.
The campaign culminated last Friday, August 28th with the “Social Good Conference”. I was asked to emcee and introduce the speakers- Facebook’s Randi Zuckerberg, ThinkSocial’s Toby Daniels, Model/activist Summer Rayne Oakes, The Case Foundation’s Kari Dunn Saratovsky, Earth Hour’s Andy Ridley, blogger extraordinaire of the non-profit space Beth Kanter, PR strategist Geoff Livingston, Scott Henderson and the amazing geek Drew Olanoff of blamedrewscancer.com- leaders in their field whose work continues to demonstrate the power of using social media to engage, inform, activate the community and transform the philanthropic landscape.
Causecast also used the event to release an all new Twestival video, which I also worked on for the upcoming Twestival Local. For all of you who have no idea what Twestival is, it’s basically a Twitter-Festival- “a global series of events organized by volunteers around the world under short timescales, which bring people offline for a great cause.”
Watch the video about the latest news and how local organizers can get more involved:
Forgot to post this when it went up last Friday- so here you go!
I must mention, that Lon and I have way too much fun shooting this. It’s a quick shoot, but it’s something I really look forward to working on every week. Amazingly, this show gets more views than some of the more professionally produced stuff I shoot. This definitely shows the power of content/consistency vs. perhaps trying too hard with the quality.
